There are a couple of reasons for this type of compressor failure:
• Piston seal has been compromised, which means the piston is still moving, however the pressure cannot be build,
• Reed valves are broken, which means the compressor is building pressure momentarily, however the pressure cannot be contained due to the valves being broken
In a situation similar with the one described above you need to replace the compressor with a functional unit, and replace the inlet filter.
There are a couple of reasons for this type of failure:
• There is an air leak in the system that prevents the compressor from building air pressure
• Reed valves inside the compressor are starting to fail. They do not provide the sealing needed
• Reed valves are prevented from closing and sealing air build up due to a mechanical reason
Dirt in the air system that is getting embedded between the read valve the cylinder head
In a situation similar with the one described above you can fix the system by fixing the air leak or replace the compressor with a functional unit, and replace the inlet filter.
The air system developed by PacBrake produces air pressure which is regulated by using an air pressure switch.
Pressure switch function is to shut down the compressor once the pressure goes beyond the upper limit.
If the pressure switch malfunctions the compressor might be in a situation to build pressure continuously.
Compressor running continuously would build up a potential dangerous situation due to high temperature that will be developed in the process.
In case you are experiencing a situation where the compressor is running continuously you need to disconnect the compressor from the power source.
There are a several reasons a compressor would not run.
Power, grounds and fuses needs to be checked first.
The pressure switch failed and does not allow the compressor to turn on.
In a situation similar with the one described above you can fix the system checking power and ground to be proper or by replacing the pressure switch with a functional unit
325 Compressor type can be used as an air source for an exhaust brake or for an air suspension system
425 Compressor can be used for tire inflation, for an exhaust brake and for an air suspension system
625 Compressor is the largest compressor produced by Pacbrake. It has large array of applications and configurations. In certain configurations, it can be used with air tools, tire inflation, exhaust brakes and air suspension systems
You can check the leaks in the system by doing a soap test on all the fittings. All you need to do is spray a mixture of soap and water on all the connections and fittings. If there is air escaping (in form of bubbles), check the fittings and seal them with a sealant if required or re-torque the fittings. Re-test the system till you see no leaks.
Pacbrake’s HP625 series compressors is an extremely powerful compressor capable of building high pressure and a very respectable flow rate. The compressor is extremely efficient at building pressure and maintaining pressure after the compressor is shut down. Any attempt to start the compressor would be difficult since the first compressor stroke would have to fight against a high pressure already in the system. Usually this condition would create a spike in power draw that can burn the motor and damage the compressor. Pacbrake has designed an unloader block that is releasing pressure in the system to allow the first compressor stroke to go unchallenged.
All air compressors are built with a duty cycle rating. This rating is typically given as a percentage of the amount of time that an air compressor can be run in a full cycle, typically, that includes the compressor’s run time and rest time at 100 PSI, and a standard ambient temperature of 72° F.
